Rates and fares
How much does a taxi ride in South Bend cost?
Local rides are metered: $3.00 flag drop plus $3.00 per mile, with a $15 minimum fare. Airport and long-distance trips are flat rate and quoted before you book. The full list is on our rates page.
Do you charge surge pricing?
No. The rate is the same on a Notre Dame home Saturday, on New Year's Eve, and during a snowstorm as it is on a quiet Tuesday.
What does an airport run cost?
South Bend International is $20 for one passenger or $12 each for a group. Chicago O'Hare and Midway are $350 for the first passenger plus $25 for each additional. Airport to Mishawaka is $30 plus $10 each, to Elkhart $75 plus $10 each, and to Plymouth $100 plus $10 each.
Is there a discount for Notre Dame students?
Yes. Notre Dame students pay a flat $5 per person on local rides.
Do children pay?
Children under 12 ride free when accompanied by a paying parent or guardian.
What if I need the driver to wait?
Wait time is $35 per hour. It's the usual arrangement for round trips to places like the Indiana Dunes or a casino, where there's no practical way back otherwise.
Is there a charge for extra passengers?
On local metered rides, $5 to $25 per additional passenger depending on the distance. On flat-rate airport runs the per-person price is listed above.
Booking
Can I book a taxi in advance?
Yes, and we recommend it for airport runs and Notre Dame home weekends. Book through our online reservation form or by calling 574-233-9599.
How far ahead should I book?
Same-day local rides are usually fine on the phone. For an airport run, a day's notice is sensible. For a Notre Dame home game weekend, book as early as you can — every cab in the region is spoken for by the Friday.
How long will I wait for a cab?
It depends on where you are and how busy we are, but we'll give you an estimated arrival time when you book rather than leaving you guessing. Call for a current estimate.
Are you open at night and on holidays?
We run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. There are no closed hours, including Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Do you track flights?
Yes. If your inbound flight is delayed we adjust the pickup rather than leaving you at the terminal or charging you for the wait.
Payment
How can I pay?
Cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, debit card, chip and contactless. Every vehicle carries a point-of-sale terminal, so you can pay by card in the cab without arranging anything in advance.
Do drivers carry change?
Drivers carry small bills only, so please avoid paying a short fare with a large note. Paying by card avoids the problem entirely.
Can my business set up an account?
Yes. Businesses, care facilities and regular commuters can be billed monthly rather than paying per ride, with priority booking. Call to arrange it.
Where we go
What areas do you serve?
South Bend, Mishawaka, Notre Dame, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Niles and Plymouth, plus the wider Michiana region. We also run longer trips into southwest Michigan and to the Chicago airports.
Which airports do you serve?
South Bend International (SBN), Chicago O'Hare (ORD), Chicago Midway (MDW), Indianapolis (IND), Fort Wayne (FWA) and Elkhart Municipal (EKM). We also run to the Amtrak and South Shore Line stations.
Do you cross into Michigan?
Yes. Niles, New Buffalo, St. Joseph and Benton Harbor are all routine trips, and no special arrangement is needed.
Safety and accessibility
Are your drivers licensed and insured?
United Cab is licensed and carries commercial liability insurance, and every driver passes a background check before driving for us. Vehicles are inspected and maintained on a schedule.
Can you carry a wheelchair or assist with mobility needs?
Yes. Tell us when you book and we'll send a suitable vehicle and a driver who can help.
Do you have room for luggage or a group?
Our fleet includes sedans, SUVs and shuttle vans, so a group with full-size cases travels together rather than splitting across two vehicles. Mention the group size and luggage when you book.
Do you do non-emergency medical transport?
Yes — appointments at Memorial, Saint Joseph and clinics across the county are a regular part of what we do. This is transport only, not medical care.
Still need an answer?
Call 574-233-9599 any hour, or use the contact form. For anything unusual — a long-distance run, a multi-stop day, a group booking — it's quicker to call and we'll quote it on the spot.
